Majlis Perletakan Batu Asas Projek Sekolah Menengah Kg Lumut Rabu 27 Syawal 1431 6 Oktober 2010




























The Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, yesterday morning officiated the foundation laying ceremony of Kampong Lumut Secondary School.
In an interview, the minister said the new school will complement the existing PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Secondary School due to the rising number of students in Kampong Lumut.
The minister further disclosed under the Eighth National Development Plan, two more educational institutions will be built in Belait District - a sixth form centre and a science college - to add to the existing sixth form education in Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, Kuala Belait.
With the construction of a sixth form centre in Belait, it will be able to provide a higher level of education for Belait students in the future.
Also in pipeline is the construction of a primary school. In addition to that, the Ministry of Education developed a plan called Project Bisai where schools will undergo repair or renovation works to upgrade the school facilities in the interest of the students and teachers, said the minister.
The Kampong Lumut Secondary School will be built on a seven-hectare land. The $18 million project will take 18 months to complete and construction started on May 4 and is expected to finish on November 3 next year. The new school will be able to accommodate 1,200 students.
The school will have five blocks for administration, library and a lecture room to hold 160 students, 40 classrooms, 16 special rooms for geography or history subjects, 12 science laobratories and a computer lab. Other facilities include meeting room, teacher's staff room, football field, running track and parking space for 200 vehicles.
After the foundation laying ceremony, the minister toured Lumut Primary School which was established since 1963. The minister was greeted by Hajah Sadiah bte Haji Maidi, school principal; assistant principal; and teachers from the primary school.
During a briefing, the principal explained the poisitive impact of various projects carried out by the school such as the School Improvement Programme (SIP) which is jointly conducted with the School Inspectorate Department, Ministry of Education. In addition to that, the School Leadership Programme and various initiatives were carried out by Lumut Primary School to boost the competencies of Year 5 and Year 6.
The primary school has 251 students and 26 teachers. It is currently undergoing construction works to build six additional classrooms under Project Bisai.Also accompanying the minister during the ceremony and visit was Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail.
